Lichfield Rotary Club keeps raising monies for charity
All of us at some time have had to endure an annual general meeting but the Lichfield Rotary Club gave out good news to its members in mid- April being held at their regular weekly lunch time meeting at Whittington Golf Club.
Good News and perhaps some poor rather than bad…. The club which is a registered charity raised some £11,000 in the last year from various sources including from a sporting event- the Cathedral to Castle annual run which starts in Lichfield and ends in Tamworth a distance of 10 miles. The club is one of four Rotary local Clubs from Lichfield and Tamworth which raises over £22,000 obtained for local and international causes one of which was Lichfield Rotary Club obtained £5500 for charity proceeds.
The monies have gone to various local charities and clubs and these include St Giles Hospice (£1,400) another was for Rotary Shelter boxes designed for when disasters strike and can be flown all over the world( £1800) Also £1000 pounds has gone to Rotary Foundation’s charity to provide doctors helping victims of the Ukraine war. Other local charities have also benefitted.
The Club also even part organised a “Duck race” in Lichfield- although the ducks were plastic so no cruelty there!
Despite their success the news that this year’s fun run was down on numbers of those taking part –however the event still attracted almost 1000 runners who paid some £25 to take part and thus raising a little less than previous years. Of course the event was organised during the Covid-19 breakout which considering the situation the numbers were rather better that anticipated by the club organisers.
If interested in joining this Club the club secretary would be delighted to hear from possible members- so please take a look at the club’s website details for membership at: www.rotarycluboflichfield.org.uk
