2019 Rotary Schools Concert
Back on stage at the Garrick Theatre in Lichfield on Tuesday (9th April) were 270 children- however not all on stage at the same time!
Lichfield Rotary Club was back at the theatre after a year’s break which could not be held in 2017 because of many schools could not meet the Theatre’s available free dates.
This year a total of 10 schools took part in song, dance and movement scenes and all were impressive especially the choirs where every word that was sung was clearly heard. The event was a sell out with parents and friends who attended.
The concert has been held since 1989 with breaks between due to theatre rebuilding so that in some cases former pupils are returning to the events as parents to see their offspring perform as they once did.
For some years the show has been produced by David Kershaw who is a former president of the club which meets weekly at Darnford Moors Golf Club which is always open to new membership.
The schools taking part were:
Queen’s Croft High School, Small Schools Multi Academy which contains three primary schools in and around the city, Christchurch CE Primary, Thomas Russell Juniors, Little Aston Primary, Willows Primary, Thomas Russell Juniors and the Friary School.
So what do the schools teachers think of the event: “We really enjoy coming to the event,
The children love it and so do the parents, so yes we shall be coming again” says Shelley Sharpe who is head teacher at Thomas Russell.
Similar comments came from two other heads of Lichfield schools – so Lichfield Rotary Club is pleased to hear these remarks and hopefully producing another show next year.
